November 16, 2010

With the 2010 racing season completed and all the points tallied up, it is now time for the Zaskowski motorsports season wrap up letter. Once again the past racing season was a great one for us filled with lots of runs down the ¼ mile and lots of win lights in our lanes. The biggest news from the past year is for the first time ever we are bringing home the 2010 Division 3 Super Stock Championship to Belding, MI! We now have 4 long cold months to ready ourselves and equipment for the 2011 racing season.
The 94 Camaro we run in Stock eliminator was our pain in the rear car this year; literally. We struggled with rear end gear issues all season and we think we have finally solved the problem. The car had Shane and me sharing the driving duties all year and we were able to run career best times and win class 3 times. I also was able to qualify for the US Nationals with this car for the first time on a run where the car did a huge wheel stand and blew out both front shocks on the landing. The car is a blast to drive and once we get past the minor issues we are having this car will back in the winner’s circle soon!
After posting a top 10 division 3 points finish in 2009, Dad’s Chevy II had a short lived season in 2010. We started out in Belle Rose, LA with the car and ran it up until we had engine failure in July at the Mid-Michigan division 3 points race. A broken valve caused all the damage to the engine and sidelined the ride for the rest of the year. While the season was short for the Chevy II there still were 2 class wins claimed and rounds won at almost every race attended. For 2011 the Chevy II with Dad behind the wheel will be back in action again and looking for another top 10 points finish.
With a big #4 on the window from last season’s National 4th place finish the 1987 Camaro headed into the 2010 season with the hammer down! All year the car was pretty much flawless and from time to time I was able to do my job behind the wheel. Everyone said the #4 on the window would make people try harder against me and they were correct. I was on the losing end of a few races where my opponents were able to put up runs that were near perfect and send me packing. On the other side I had a few runs where people tried too hard and I was rewarded with a red light in the other lane. In the end I think it all panned out in my favor, I was able to clinch my first Division 3 Super Stock championship after finishing #2 four times! For the second year in a row I finished in the top five nationally in Super Stock posting a 3rd place finish improving from last year by 1 position. We scored three semi-final finishes, a runner-up at the route 66 raceway points meet (where my Dad won last year) and I won the Columbus points meet in July. We also won class 4 times in 2010 which one was with Dad returning to the driver’s seat at the Mac tools US Nationals.
Every fall I look back on the season and think, once again we have been able to improve on the year before and have our best year yet; what are we going to be able to do next year‏

11-10-2009

Unbelievable! That is the only word that comes to mind when thinking about the 2009 racing season that Zaskowski motorsports had. Pretty much every year I say that we have had our best season so far and this season was no different. We had 2 National event wins, 2 divisional wins, 11 class wins, 2 divisional top 10 points finishing super stock cars, one national top 5 points finish, personal best runs, a best appearing car award and everything in between. It was a great season!
The 2009 season was good to us from the start. We hit the track early with the Super Stock 1987 camaro driven by myself (Brad). The second race we attended was one of our favorites; the JEGS Cajun Sportnationals in Belle Rose, LA. I won the race two years ago and we found ourselves in the winners circle again in 2009. The win put me in the running for the JEGS crown, which is a trophy given to any driver who can win two of the three Sportnationals in the same season. In August, I had a couple real good weekends scoring a divisional runner-up finish at National Trail Raceway and a divisional win at Cordova Raceway. A few other late round finishes had me way up in the points divisionally and nationally. This brought us to the last race I could claim points at; The JEGS sportnationals at National Trails Raceway. With the JEGS crown and national points on the line I managed to make it down to the semifinals before the car wouldn’t go into third gear ending the weekend for us. At the end of the season I finished #2 in the NHRA division 3 points and #4 Nationally in Super Stock points.
The Chevy II Super Stocker was the second of our cars to hit the track this season with Dad (Bill) behind the wheel. The combination of Dad and his old car was very good this season. He had class wins, fast runs, a bunch of win lights and a Best Appearing car award at the Mid Michigan Motorplex division 3 race. The biggest news was that Dad won his first divisional race ever after 34 years of racing. The win came at the Joliet division 3 race. With the win came points and added with the rest of Dad’s divisional race points he ended up a career best #10 in the NHRA Super Stock division 3 points.
The stocker was the last of our cars to hit the track this season. We had the engine in the car rebuilt over the winter and the performance gains were clearly shown. Shane did all of the driving in the stocker this season accept for two races where I got to the car. Shane managed to turn on a few win lights, got his first NHRA class win at Norwalk and made it to the semi finals at the Mid Michigan Motorplex in Stanton, MI. After school started back up for Shane this fall he made one last season appearance at the JEGS Northern Sportnationals where he made the fastest run in the car yet a 10.776 @122mph 1.02 under the D/S index to win his second NHRA class win of the year. Once Shane was back up at school I stole his car and headed down to Richmond, Va for one last race for the year. It ended up being a great way to end the season. I scored my second national event win of the year and my first in Stock eliminator.
2009 was by far our best season ever and it would not have been possible without the support from our family, friends and sponsors! I just hope we can come close to a season like this one next year.
